Jerusalem Shel Zahav
BBG
#1516
WHO ARE WE?
Jerusalem Shel Zahav BBG #1516 is a chapter in a Jewish Youth Organization called BBYO. We are a part of BBG, the female portion of BBYO. In BBG, we strive to create sisterhood, connect with our Judaism, and promote leadership among teenagers. Our chapter is part of the of CRW #45 region that consists of many chapters in the Bay Area. Every Saturday, we come together with our brother chapter, Ramon AZA #195, for Havdallah and dinner. Then we participate in an event relating to at least one of our six folds.
JSZ'S HISTORY & NAME ORIGIN
JSZ BBG#1516 was established in November 30th, 1966 by remarkable young women. Dikila Shenav was the first N'siah (president) of JSZ.
JSZ's initials stand for Jerusalem Shel Zahav and are derived from Naomi Shemer's Hebrew song of Jerusalem Shel Zahav , meaning Jerusalem of gold. However, JSZ used to be YSZ which stood for Yerushalaim Shel Zahav, and is the same as JSZ, only with the Hebrew word.
